My magic hat will send out poopy poop

"My magic hat will send out poopy poop"

Happy Diwali dear readers!  It has been a busy few months, what with S. in a new school (which starts flipping early in the AM btw), a new puppy etc.

The subject of this post is a quote from S's poem (see photo below), which she wrote for her creative writing class.  I am not sure what it means, or how it reflects on A. and myself as parents, but suffice it to say for the present that I am having it carved onto the family crest and Tshirts made up.   I was EXTREMELY impressed with S's teacher who, during our parent/teacher session discussing (amongst other things) said poem, exhibited stone-cold professionalism and a poker face.  I am not sure I would have been equal to this challenge.

A propos of which, I leave next week for a 250km desert ultra in the Kalahari, over a 7 day span.  This challenge has been kind of time-consuming to prep for, not least because it meant digging out of the hole which my knee injury had put me in.  My knee remains stiff, but is holding up well to the training, much of which is done with a backpack weighing anywhere from 6-10kg.

The race itself is from 1-8 November, in the semi-desert along the Orange river forming the border between SA and Namibia.  The terrain is undulating, with both dunes and scrubland.  I am required to bring food, meds, clothing, bedding etc. - everything except water.

My next post, before I leave, will detail the course and my prep and my expectations.

Till then, below are some recent pics.

May your magic hat, also, send out copious poopy poop.

Your working boy,

Pretty solid Princess Leia (sp?) - note the wooden sword!

Always appreciate how Kenyan signage isn't overly prescriptive or infantilizing...in Hell's Gate

Pretty formal in Brazza!

I really felt I was disrespecting these athletes by toeing the same start line.  There was a dude in a (totally non-ironic) running mankini!

Oh, so that is how you spell 'achaar' in French...

S. gunning it on sports day!

S.'s creative writing work sample: 'My magic hat will send out poopy poop' - Hats off to S's teacher who kept a poker face throughout our Parent/Teacher session, exhibiting some stone cold professionalism.

Poor taste much? (ranch owners are white!)
